This workshop will be presented by Antonious Petro, Scientific Director at Regeneration Canada.

Here’s an overview of what you’ll learn:

1. Introduction to soil science

Introduction to soil science is a brief explanation of soil chemistry, physics, and biology;
Global issues concerning soil;
Activity: soil diagnosis


2. Soil microbiology

Diversity of soil micro-organisms that interact with the soil food web.
Interdependence of different communities and their essential ecosystems services, as well as fertility and crop yield.
Activity: soils under the microscope


3. Regenerative agriculture and carbon sequestration

Understanding the carbon cycle on the planet and the impact of our agricultural practices on soil degradation and our climate.
Carbon sequestration through regenerative agriculture
Other benefits of regenerative agriculture: improvement of biodiversity, soil fertility and yield.
Overview of regenerative practices (minimal tillage, composting, agroforestry, and others.)


4. Urban soil and citizen engagement

Tools and practical ideas to change consumption habits towards a more regenerative model

Antonious Petro is a graduate in biology, community economic development and certified in permaculteur. Antonious is passionate about soil regeneration, social innovation and is dedicated to the fight against climate change. He is currently the Science Director at Regeneration Canada and is pursuing a master’s degree in soil science.
