New Regenerative Dairy Program Launches in Manitoba

A first-of-its-kind initiative helping dairy farmers build economic, social, and environmental resilience.

Winnipeg, MB – Regeneration Canada and the Manitoba Forage & Grassland Association (MFGA) have launched the Manitoba Regenerative Dairy Program, a farmer-centred initiative supporting dairy farmers in building on-farm resilience through regenerative practices.

Rooted in collaboration, this program recognizes that a regenerative food system starts with farmers.

Initially, it brings together five core dairy farmers through the first regional Hub, who are applying regenerative principles suited to their unique contexts. Together, they will measure on-farm outcomes, refine approaches, and identify practical solutions that improve their environmental impact and business performance.

Farmers will receive individual guidance and collective support, learning from peers and advisors while contributing their own experience to the group.

“The Manitoba Regenerative Dairy Program empowers dairy farmers to take the lead in shaping practical, regenerative solutions that work for their farms and their future.”

— Kristelle Harper, Manitoba Local Manager, Regeneration Canada

Why It Matters

Across Canada, farmers and ranchers are applying regenerative principles to improve soil health, biodiversity, and water cycles—strengthening resilience on their farms and within their communities. In Manitoba, dairy farmers are already leading the transition to regenerative agriculture, adopting and scaling practices on their operations.

The Manitoba Regenerative Dairy Program connects farmers, supports outcome measurement, and shares data and insights to accelerate regenerative innovation across the province’s dairy sector—ensuring farms remain both economically viable and environmentally resilient for generations to come.

Program Timeline and Opportunities

The program launched in October 2025 and will run for four years. The first Regenerative Dairy Hub has welcomed its initial cohort of participating farms, with a second Hub scheduled to launch in early 2026.

Throughout the program, field days, workshops, and webinars will offer multiple opportunities for all interested farmers to connect, learn, and share insights across Manitoba’s dairy sector.

Partners in Collaboration

The Manitoba Regenerative Dairy Program was born from a shared belief that lasting change requires collaboration, not duplication, and that every partner has a distinct role to play in supporting farmers.

At its core is the longstanding partnership between Regeneration Canada (RC) and the Manitoba Forage & Grassland Association (MFGA) who co-lead the program, bridging national vision and local leadership to advance regenerative practices and farmer-centred programming across Manitoba.

Regeneration Canada is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting soil regeneration in order to mitigate climate change, restore biodiversity, improve farmers’ livelihoods, and support a healthy food system.

MFGA is a producer-led association that supports the adoption of regenerative and forage-based practices across Manitoba’s agricultural landscapes.

Key collaborators include Canadian Organic Growers (COG), the Smart Prosperity Institute (SPI), and TheoryMesh (TM), whose expertise in curriculum development, economic modeling, and digital data platforms strengthens the program’s foundation and ensures farmers are directly supported.
