Program Manager – Indigenous-Led Regenerative Agriculture

Start Date: As soon as possible

About Regeneration Canada

Regeneration Canada is a non-profit organization dedicated to enabling the adoption of regenerative agriculture by facilitating knowledge exchange, building networks, raising awareness, and co-developing practical transition pathways with farmers, ranchers and stakeholders.

Through our programs, we foster collective learning and capacity building for the adoption of regenerative practices. Our initiatives include creating spaces for peer-to-peer learning and collaboration, developing regional Hubs as co-creation spaces, and supporting producers in their transition.

WORKING WITH US

We are a dynamic team composed of individuals with diverse experiences and personalities who share a passion for regenerative agriculture. Non-violent communication, collaboration, and inclusion are values that guide the way we work. At Regeneration Canada, we offer a work environment that balances autonomy and collaboration. You will manage your own projects independently while having access to leadership support and the team’s expertise. This approach enables everyone to contribute actively to our mission while developing their own leadership.

CONTEXT

Regeneration Canada is co-developing and implementing Indigenous-led Regenerative Agriculture programming with Indigenous Communities across Western Canada. This initiative aims to support the development, re-establishment, or strengthening of Indigenous agricultural systems and food sovereignty through regenerative practices that restore soil health, biodiversity, and community resilience.

Rooted in principles of respect, reciprocity, and co-creation, the program is being designed through direct engagement with Indigenous Communities, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and local leaders to ensure it reflects local contexts, cultural values, and aspirations. It builds upon the establishment of regional regenerative Hubs: networks that foster collaboration, shared learning, and peer-to-peer support, and form part of Regeneration Canada’s broader effort to create equitable, place-based pathways toward regenerative land stewardship.

YOUR ROLE

The Program Manager will play a central role in cultivating relationships, coordinating the co-design, development and implementation of activities, and ensuring transparent, respectful, and effective collaboration with Indigenous partners, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and local coordinators.

Working closely with the Director of Strategy and Development and other team members, they will contribute to building a foundation for long-term, Indigenous-led regenerative agriculture across Canada.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and develop relationships and trust between RC and Indigenous Communities, including Elders, Knowledge Keepers, Chiefs and Councils, First Nation and Métis leadership, relevant departments, and, where they are in place, local coordinators.
  • Work with Communities to understand their challenges, needs and barriers to establishing, re-establishing and or developing agriculture, ensuring they are carefully and accurately documented.
  • Where appropriate and needed, participate in Indigenous, traditional and cultural ceremonies as a way to demonstrate respect, build trust and grow shared understanding.
  • Employ culturally sensitive and appropriate approaches to identifying opportunities that address the challenges, needs and barriers identified.
  • Work with the Communities to develop needed governance, impact assessment, reporting and review processes, ensuring RC is always transparent and accountable.
  • With support, representing RC at events, with partners and funders, being the face of the Indigenous-led programming.

Tasks:

  • Building on existing documentation, undertake a light landscape scan of the province (using RC template) to ensure a good understanding of the Indigenous agri-food space in Canada.
  • Conduct a thorough mapping and assessment of the relevant stakeholders, potential partners and collaborators in the provinces, identifying the individuals and organizations operating in the province, the scope, activities, and ambitions and decide if there is potential for collaboration with them as part of the RC programming.
  • Develop an Engagement Plan (using RC template) for outreaching and partnering with Communities and relevant stakeholders and organizations. This would identify the individuals and organizations and the ways of engaging with these, including approach, mechanism, timing, and requirements.
  • Implement the necessary governance structures, including the Steering Committee, the data protocols and reporting processes, using the RC templates and producer-centred approach.
  • Co-design and develop the Program, ensuring its relevance to the individual Community context. The process will prioritize building trust, fostering reciprocal relationships, and offering training and shared learning opportunities
  • Co-organize, host, and facilitate events, trainings, workshops, amongst other activities, in collaboration with Communities.
  • Work with RC’s partners and Communities to implement this Program nationally and stand up the projects with Indigenous Communities in line with a strong commitment to Truth and Reconciliation.
  • Overall coordination of all activities related to this Program, including governance, knowledge mobilization, data collection and analysis, learning sharing and communications, amongst others.
  • Implement the impact assessment and prepare the necessary reporting to show the progress, performance, and challenges of the Program.

Contributing to:

  • Preparation of key overarching strategic documentation for the Program’s development and implementation.
  • Prudent and lawful management of all funding, including careful record keeping, cost monitoring, and financial reporting.
  • Support the preparation of fundraising bid submissions and proposals where necessary.
  • Assist with gathering content for our Communications function, including, amongst other tasks, ensuring necessary consents are in place at all events and activities.
