Regeneration Canada supports collaborative, producer-informed research that helps de-risk and build confidence in the transition to regenerative agriculture. We are bringing together scientists and farmers to generate practical knowledge and remove the barriers to the transition towards resilient farms and food systems.

Our goal is to generate and share knowledge, as well as cultivate relationships, networks and communities of practices that build the regenerative agriculture movement across Canada.

Why Regenerative Agriculture Research Matters The transition to regenerative agriculture requires practical knowledge that reflects the realities of farming across Canada’s diverse landscapes, production systems, and economic contexts.

Regenerative agriculture research helps farmers, ranchers, researchers, advisors, Indigenous Communities, governments, and other agri-food system actors better understand how regenerative practices perform under real-world conditions.

By supporting collaborative, producer-informed research, Regeneration Canada helps generate evidence that reduces risk and informs decision-making, as well as scales and accelerates the adoption of regenerative agriculture across Canada. In doing so, we are ensuring knowledge gaps are filled, innovation is accelerated, and the networks that support the regenerative transition are strengthened.

Our Research Philosophy

At Regeneration Canada, we participate in and support research that advances our mission of accelerating the adoption of regenerative agriculture across Canada.

We prioritize research that:

  • Is informed by farmers and ranchers and addresses real-world challenges.
  • Generates practical knowledge based on evidence that supports on-farm decision-making.
  • Assess and understand the impact of regenerative practices and helps identify new practical solutions to barriers that limit adoption.
  • Manages and mitigates risks to transition to regenerative agriculture.
  • Drives innovation.
  • Brings together diverse perspectives and knowledge systems to strengthen relationships across the agri-food system.
  • Creates opportunities for peer learning, knowledge exchange, and collaboration.
  • Includes a clear pathway for knowledge mobilization, adoption, and long-term impact.

We believe research is a catalyst for learning, collaboration, and systems change. Research has the greatest impact when it connects farmers, ranchers, researchers, advisors, Indigenous Communities, businesses, governments, and civil society around shared questions and practical solutions.

Our Role in Collaborative Research

Regeneration Canada plays a collaborative role throughout the research process.

Depending on the project, we may contribute by:

  • Co-developing research priorities and projects with farmers, ranchers, and partners.
  • Engaging farmers and ranchers throughout the research process.
  • Recruiting and supporting participating farms.
  • Facilitating collaboration across sectors, disciplines, and regions.
  • Translating research findings into practical tools and learning opportunities.
  • Mobilizing knowledge through events, peer learning, and communities of practice.
  • Connecting regional initiatives to strengthen learning and collaboration across Canada.
